HP C3140 All-In-One printer
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

The printer was working perfectly, then I printed some notes on colored paper that were not quite 5" x 7", but printed perfectly. Then I tried to print on letter sized paper and I got error lights on "Check paper" and Check print cartridge". There is no paper jam and I changed out the print cartridges. The error lights are still flashing. The printer msg that is on the computer for the printer is "Mechanism Error: The print cartridge cradle cannot move. Turn the printer off, free the cartridge cradle, and turn the printer back on." I have turned the printer off, unplugged and replugged the power cord and the  cartridge cradle moves smoothly across the bar when the printer is turned on.  What do you suggest?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Let me know if this helps.
