HP OfficeJet 8014e All-in-One Printer

I have a problem with this printer, OfficeJet 8014e. It shows the error on the display "an error occurred with the printhead" and doesn't allow you to do much. I tried to reset it but it now requires setup cartridges, which I don't have anymore. I also tried to change all the cartridges but it didn't work.

Hi @Mattia94,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 8014e is showing an error related to the printhead and you're unable to proceed because it’s requesting setup cartridges or not recognizing new cartridges, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can reset any temporary errors.

2. Reinstall Printhead

  • Open the printer’s access door where the cartridges and printhead are located.
  • Carefully remove the printhead by following the instructions in the printer’s manual. Note how it is installed so you can reinstall it correctly.
  • Inspect the printhead for any visible dirt or dried ink. Clean it gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab moistened with distilled water. Avoid touching the electrical contacts.Reinstall the printhead by placing it back into its slot and ensuring it is securely seated.:
  • Close the access door and allow the printer to initialize.

3. Check and Reinstall Cartridge

  • Remove the ink cartridges and check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are properly seated and clicked into place.

4. Perform Printhead Cleaning

  • If the printer allows you to access the settings, run a printhead cleaning cycle. This option is usually found in the Tools or Maintenance menu on the printer’s control panel.
  • After cleaning, print a test page to see if the error is resolved.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your OfficeJet 8014e. Firmware updates can resolve various printer issues.
  • Follow the instructions on the HP website to download and install any available firmware updates.

6. Verify Cartridge and Printhead Compatibility

  • Verify that the cartridges and printhead are compatible with your OfficeJet 8014e model. Using non-compatible cartridges can lead to errors.
  • If setup cartridges are required, you may need to purchase a new set if the printer was previously set up with them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, I had to have a replacement printer delivered from the HP support Italy because it appears to be a printhead error and there's nothing one can do about it. Anyway I received another 8014e that displays a paper jam error since the very beginning. I didn't even put paper onto the tray. I turned it on and it showed me the message. Now it isn't letting me do much either, I think I have to get in touch with the HP support one more time and see what happens.

Hi, I followed your suggestion in a general way. Today the HP support of my country called me and helped me out. I unplugged the power cable, waited 30 seconds, put the printer vertically, removed the paper tray to check for any possible piece of paper or labels, hit the printer MULTIPLE TIMES, turned the printer on while putting the paper tray back. After that, I could inexplicably be able to go on with the cartridge alignment. I also added the printer to my HP Smart and updated its firmware.
