I called yesterday concerning Error Code 49.38.07 on an hp mfp m681. A technician tried to resolve the problem yesterday/today. The Invoice was for $199.99 and I entered my credit card info. I noted that it was from Netsquad Technologies.  They also installed a program on my laptop "Samish Tech". Is this legitimate? Does hp use this third party for printer issues?

This is likely a service company posturing as an HP approved servicer.  Nothing they would install could resolve a 49 error on a printer.

If you still have the error here are the steps to narrow down the cause.

1. Unplug any network or usb cables from the printer. Restart the printer. if it comes to ready and you can print the configuration pages from the control panel it is most likely an issue with the driver or file you were trying to print and the printer itself is fine. If you still get the error with no cables connected then either the firmware is corrupt or you have other hardware issues.

2. to troubleshoot the cause on your computer, first purge the print spooler following these instructions: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-clear-printer-queue-in-windows-10/7e5ac...

then delete the printer driver and reconnect the printer. If printer stays at ready, reinstall the printer and then try to print something.
