HP Envy 4501
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

After changing ink cartridges both black and color and changing photo papers my printer is still printing too red. Just the day before it was printing beautifully.  I've tried everything. Please help. I'm about ready to trash it and go with some other brand.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 4501 printer. I understand that you are getting the print quality issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Check the paper.

Check the print settings.

  1. In the program you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.

    The Print window opens.

  2. Open the Properties dialog box.

Depending on the software program, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.

  3. Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:

    • Paper Type: If you are printing on photo paper, select the type of photo paper you are attempting to print on.

    • Print Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality. These options typically include Best, Normal, and Draft modes.

    • Paper Size: If you are printing on a different size of paper than you normally print on, select the correct paper size.

    • Black and White: If you want to print in black and white only, select the grayscale option.

  4. After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.

Check the estimated ink levels.

Print and examine the Print Quality Diagnostic report.

Clean the ink cartridges.

Align the printer.

Manually clean the area around the ink nozzles.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

I'm sorry, but I've done all of that. I just printed 50 5x7 photo quality pictures on high gloss and matte photo paper.  Didn't print them all at once either.  I let the printer rest overnight each night.  I was printing in the best quality. That's why I sucked down 3 color ink cartridges which I thought was a little excessive.  I cleaned the printheads according to the setting  on my printer. Then I manually cleaned the cartridges after removing from the printer.  Still no luck. Funny thing is my black cartridge that I put in at the same time has used hardly any ink?
