Inkjet Printer won't print my transparency no matter what paper choice I use. Transparency has paper edge. If I put it on top of paper the paper gets printed., not the transparency. If I put single transparency in the tray with no paper underneath it won't print at all. Says I need paper and spits out the transparency. Tried multiple times. Please help !!!!

HI @REEWORKS,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
This is a common issue with HP inkjet printers because transparencies are not officially supported media for most consumer models. Here’s why and what you can do:
Why It Happens
- HP printers use optical sensors to detect paper. Transparencies often fail this check because they are clear and don’t reflect light like paper.
- Even if the transparency has a paper edge, the printer may still reject it or print incorrectly because the sensor expects full-page opacity.
Workarounds
- Attach Transparency to a Carrier Sheet
- Tape the transparency to a regular sheet of paper along the leading edge.
- Make sure the tape is thin and smooth so it doesn’t jam.
- Load the combined sheet into the tray as if it were normal paper.
- Print using the Plain Paper setting.
- Use Manual Feed (Single Sheet)
- If your printer supports manual feed, insert the transparency attached to paper one sheet at a time.
- If your printer supports manual feed, insert the transparency attached to paper one sheet at a time.
- Print on Transparency-Compatible Media
- HP recommends using inkjet-compatible transparencies (with a coating for ink absorption).
- These usually have a white strip or opaque header for sensor detection.
- Select Correct Settings
- In the print dialog, choose:
- Plain Paper
- Best Quality
- Disable duplex printing.
- In the print dialog, choose:
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
