Hi @hchchc1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus (A910g) repeatedly shows “Alignment Failed” after multiple attempts (12 times in your case), and it refuses to print, this typically points to an issue with cartridges, printhead condition, or printer internals. Here's how to troubleshoot step by step:

Step-by-Step Fix: “Alignment Failed” on HP 8500A Plus

1. Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges

  • Make sure you're using genuine HP ink (not third-party or refilled cartridges).
  • If not, replace them and try alignment again.

2. Check Ink Levels

  • Low or empty cartridges can cause alignment to fail.
  • On the printer screen:
    • Tap the Ink icon or go to Setup > Tools > Estimated Ink Levels.
    • Replace any low or empty cartridges.

3. Remove and Reinsert the Printhead

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Lift the grey latch that holds the printhead and carefully lift out the printhead.
  • Clean the copper contacts on the back of the printhead (not the nozzles!) and inside the carriage using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the printhead and cartridges, then close everything and try again.

4. Clean the Printhead via Printer Menu

  • Go to:
    • Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • After cleaning, retry the alignment:
    • Setup > Tools > Align Printer.

5. Check Paper Type and Size

  • Use unused, clean white A4 or Letter-size paper.
  • Make sure it's loaded properly in the tray and not wrinkled.

6. Try Aligning from the HP Software (PC)

  • Open the HP Printer Assistant on your Windows 10 PC.
  • Go to Maintain Your Printer > Align Printhead.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
