HP Photosmart 5520
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Hi,

Been trying many different ways to print a borderless image (for a wedding invite) but each time it comes out with a approximately 3mm border.

Image is A6 in size and needs printing onto A5 paper.

Have tried the following:

  • Selecting different paper types - 3 different type of photo and plain paper just to check (although I believe the photosmart 5520 won't print borderless on plain paper?)
  • Using default A5 paper size setting within the printer window
  • Using a manually created A5 paper size without borders
  • Scaling the image to be approximately 6mm larger than A5 (in photoshop)
  • Chagning zoom setting in the print windows to make it approximately 6mm larger (image just appear zoomed but still with a border)
  • Changing image size to be A5 (in photoshop)
  • Unselecting double sided printing
  • Printing from Photoshop and Adobe (saved as PDF first)
  • All combinations of the above!

Getting a little annoyed now!  None of the above have worked and there is always a 3mm border. Had a look through previous forum entries and had a good Google but not found any solutions that fix the problem.  Only thing I did notice is that there does not appear to be a default paper size of 'A5 borderless', whereas this does exist for A6 and A4!

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Ste

Update:  it seems to be the paper size that is the issue.

If I print using the default paper sizes of 'A6 without borders' or 'A4 without borders', then I can print right up to the edge of the paper but there is no in-built A5 without borders setting!  I have created a custom paper size for A5 without borders but it always prints with a border!!!  AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Any one had similar issues with custom paper sizes?

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Adjusting the print settings may resolve the issue, let's try these steps:

1.) Open the Photos app and select the photo that you want to print.

2.) Click File, and then click Print.

3.) Select a layout as Fill, and then click Print.

4.) Click the unnamed print options menu at the center of the dialog and select Media & Quality. Click Feed from and select Main Tray.

5.) Click the unnamed print options menu at the center of the dialog and select Paper Handling.

6.) Check the box"Scale to fit paper size". Click Destination Paper Size and select A5 Borderless.

7.) Click Print.

Let me know how it goes!
