I installed a new ASUS router and my HP 6980 wireless printer will not connect with the new router. I set the router for 2.4 GHz and 5:0 GHz but neither will connect. I have pushed the appropriate connect buttons on the router and printer, but they do not connect. Your assistance is appreciated.

I checked the router you mentioned and it seems that the router is having an 802.11ac access point. Your printer only supports 802.11 b/g or 802.11 b/g/n mode.
In essence, 802.11ac is a supercharged version of 802.11n. 802.11ac is dozens of times faster and delivers speeds ranging from 433 Mbps (megabits per second) up to several gigabits per second. But not all the devices are compatible to receive the output from the router and the printer is one of them. You can log in to the router EWS page and change the 802.11ac to 802.11b/g/n mode and check for the issue resolution.
You might need to contact the ISP to change the router settings.

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!
I see that you are having trouble connecting the printer to the new router. To assist you better I'd like to know the router model and the wireless mode / frequency of your router.
This is an old printer model and operates primarily in 802.11b/g mode with 2.4 GHz. It could be possible that the router is in 802.11 b/g/n 5.0 GHz and hence is not able to connect to the new router network.
You can log in to the router EWS page and change wireless mode to 802.11b/g and check for the issue resolution.

Thank you for your reply. My router is an ASUS RT-AC56R dual band. I have it set for 2.4 GHz. when I try to connect to the printer. I worked for an hour with a tech specialist from ASUS to try to solve the problem. Unfortunately, after trying several different options they told be the problem was with the printer and to contact HP for support. I now have the printer connected to an Ethernet cable in a different rooom and it is working,fine. I would like to have the printer in my office and I do not have a cable there. I hope this helps.
