Hi @Jayh2025,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 4255e is broadcasting Wi-Fi Direct, but your Windows 10 PC is not detecting it properly. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Check Printer Connection Mode

  • If your printer is in Wi-Fi Direct mode, it won't connect to your home Wi-Fi network. Instead, it creates its own direct network.
  • If you want the printer on your home Wi-Fi, it must be connected to your Wi-Fi router (not Wi-Fi Direct).

Step 2: Connect the Printer to Your Home Wi-Fi

Reset Wi-Fi settings on the printer

  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel (X) buttons on the printer until the Wi-Fi light blinks.
  • Wait for the printer to reset the network settings.

Use HP Smart to Set Up Wi-Fi

  • On your PC, download and install HP Smart from the HP website.
  • Open HP Smart and click Set up a new printer.
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Check Windows 10 Settings

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click Add a Printer and let Windows search for your printer.
  • If it doesn’t appear, click The printer that I want isn’t listed and follow the steps to manually add it using the IP address.

Step 4: Try Connecting via USB

  • If Wi-Fi still doesn’t work, connect the printer via USB and see if your PC recognizes it.
  • If it works via USB, try running HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix Wi-Fi issues.

Let me know what happens at each step!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Dealing with the same issues - HP printers are terrible. I hate how it's so hard to just print papers... like why is there all this bloat? I swear the engineers over there are trash.
