Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 10. Printed ok on Vista but not now on Windows 10. Understand that F2120 USB is out of date compared to the USB on new computer. Is this the problem and if so is there a solution? By the way  I have put in a new HP black cartridge and removed the film. I can print using the colour cartridge if I change the font in the document. Thanks

Mr Robot

I have resolved the problem.

I tried your suggestions but I could not resolve the issue.

Next I tried HP Support Assistant and added the printer as a device.

I then ran the troubleshooting and after checking everything it came back to say there was an issue with the device related to the ink cartridges.

I had changed the black cartridge to a new one originally. However the colour cartridge was low at the time but I was still able to print with it.

I decided to change the colour cartridge to a new one and then ran the troubleshooting procedure again.

This time everything was ok.

I then tried to print a document in black and it printed out ok.

Not sure if the issue was the colour cartridge or the troubleshooter updated the drivers.

Thank you for all your help.

Hey there! @GeoffG2, Thank you for joining the HP Forums!

I understand you have issues printing in black color from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?

Have you tried printing using a different application?

As you mentioned after upgrading your PC to Windows 10 you have issues printing in black color.

Replace low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on your printer.

Try the steps recommended below.

Search Windows for 'printers', then click Devices and Printers in the search results.

Right-click the icon for your printer, click Printer Properties, click the Advanced tab, then click Printing Defaults down in the bottom left corner. Change your settings and click OK. See if that makes your preferences stick.

Uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link. Click here to download.

Print a self-test report

If the steps above have not resolved the issue, print and evaluate a self-test report to determine if the cartridges or printer is causing the problem.

  1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. Press and hold the Cancel () button and then press the Start Copy Color () button.

  3. Release both buttons. The self-test report prints.

Step five: Note which cartridges printed which areas of the self-test report

You must identify which cartridge printed which part of the self-test page, so that if you find defects on the page, you will know which cartridge is the problem.

However, you can install different combinations of print cartridges in your printer, and different cartridge combinations print different self-test page patterns. Your self-test page may not look exactly like the picture below, but the right and left cartridges will print in the same areas of the page no matter which cartridges are installed.

Hi @GeoffG2! You're welcome and thanks for your prompt response.

I am happy to hear that your issue got resolved.

As I mentioned in my first post it could be a faulty ink cartridge and to replace the ink cartridge with a known good one.

Good that you found and replaced the ink cartridge on your printer.
