Regarding my Envy 5055 printer, after I changed my HP black ink cartridge, the printer will not print black ink.  It says ink quality set to default.  I have tried to clean ink cartridges, reset the printer but the alignment page only shows color not black.  I believe I need a reset out of the current default status.  I tried installing a diifferent black cartridge with same results.  Thank you.

Hi @marmol1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some frustrating issues with your printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed in the printer. Sometimes cartridges may not be seated correctly, leading to printing issues.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the black ink cartridge and gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth. This can help ensure good electrical contact.
  • Printer Reset: Try performing a reset on your printer to see if it resolves the issue. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on. Wait for about a minute, then plug the power cord back in. Turn on the printer and check if the problem persists.
  • Check Ink Levels: Verify that the black ink cartridge has sufficient ink. Sometimes, even if a new cartridge is installed, it may be faulty or low on ink.
  • Print Quality Settings: Check the print quality settings on your printer. It seems like it might be set to default quality. You can try changing the print quality settings to see if it resolves the issue. Navigate through the printer menu or printer settings on your computer to adjust the print quality settings.
  • Alignment Page Issue: If the alignment page is not printing black, it could be a problem with the printer's alignment process. Try initiating the alignment process again through the printer's menu or software on your computer.
  • Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes updating the printer's firmware can resolve various issues.

Hopefully, one of these steps will help you resolve the issue with your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
