How to solve unrecognized cartridge on HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2676

Same problem, different type of printer & different ink cartridge. Apparently, the only authorized workaround to this issue is to purchase the newest version of their ink cartridges. However, there are unofficial and unauthorized rumors that the issue is not the type of printer or its updates.....it's that the latest update voided all but the newest version of the ink cartridge, AND nullified the downgrades. Rumor has it that the chip on every ink cartridge associated with the previous version will no longer be recognized by ANY of their printers. Rumor has it that it's the CHIPS on each ink cartridge that needs to be switched out and replaced by the new version. I read this on dozens of individual & business websites. I watched this info explained, and I located a company that sells the chips and shows how to switch out the chip. Rumor has it that there had been instructions on firmware downgrades for a large variety of their printers so they accept the previous ink cartridge, but this company removed the instructions from those who published them with a type of cease & desist.  Any downgrade instruction that's still out there (I've found a few) won't fix the issue (I've tried NUMEROUS times getting the same unsuccessful result). Note: downgrading voids the warranty of your printer, and "may harm the printer". But since my printer at this point is unusable without going to the expense of buying all new ink cartridges (which is what they want us to do), and since the warranty on this printer has long since expired, I had nothing to lose.
