Vertical lines on black/white copy or scan

HP 7740 Pro AIO printer.  When I scan or copy using ADF there is a wide solid black vertical line. This does not happen when I copy in color using ADF.  I have tried resetting the printer, restoring defaults, etc. All surfaces are spotless clean.  None of the answers found in the forum have worked. Again, this only happens scanning or making black and white copies. Color copies do not have the line.

Might be time to replace the printer but any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform a power reset

1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
6. Turn on the printer.
