Product: HP Photosmart 7510 Model No. C311a

I've got a HP printer that suddenly won't print.  It displayed the bowtie and hexagon symbols (both black inks), so I replaced the cartridges with genuine HP ones, even though they didn't need replacing at all because the cartridges I had in there were full.  Instead of solving the problem, it only made it worse because an error message  appeared saying the "printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed."  The panel is stuck on this error message and won't go away.  I trawled through HPs online help pages, I've watched countless YouTube videos and followed the procedures for rectifying my Photosmart printer problem and it still won't work.  The error message won't budge.  The last info I read on HPs website said I could replace the printhead, so I trawled through pages and pages of HPs website looking for where they sell printheads for my particular model.  There was nothing, nada, zilch!  So I visited HP community support for help about where on HPs website I can buy a new printhead, and I couldn't find nuffing, so I'm asking HPs experts where I can buy a new printhead for my HP Photosmart 7510, model no. C311a?  And if HP don't sell them, why don't they?  I mean I've got a piece of machinery here that I could repair and HP make it really, really, really, really difficult for me to do it!!!!!!  IIt ain't right  because in certain parts of Africa and India they'd actually repair this printer, so why are HP making it difficult for me to do the same?  Where can I buy a replacement printhead for my Photosmart 7510 (C311a) printer?  And if HP don't stock replacement printheads why don't they?

 

Got a reply that expected me to trawl through 305 pages looking for an answer.  So I responded......

I still haven't got an answer to my question where, on HP's website, can I buy a printhead for my HP Photosmart 7510 (C311a)?  I want to repair my printer.  It can be repaired.  After applying various troubleshooting procedures that HP recommended I try my HP printer still isn't working.  HP said on their website that if I've exhausted all avenues then try replacing the printhead and gave instructions on how to do so.  HP also said they sell printheads.  I would like to repair my HP printer by replacing the printhead.  I want to buy one a genuine printhead from HP and not some knockoff from some obscure seller on Amazon.  There must be someone from HP who can answer my question.  I look forward to a reply.  Thanks!!!!!!!

HP provides a limited number and type of after market parts for some devices.

Company decisions based on careful research, risk and benefit, profit and loss. 

 

This product was introduced in 2011

The printer is likely ten years old or fairly close to it.

Doesn't matter.

 

If HP carried parts for the printer, they are likely no longer carried.

Thanks for answering my question.  You are part of HP’s community group.  Who make up the community group?  Is it HP customers who’ve purchased HP products that’ve set up an online forum for HP customers who can ask for help to resolve problems, and HP customers who’ve had experience of these problems share info on how they resolved them?  Do they volunteer their valuable time, going online helping fellow HP customers with issues?  I doubt it.  It’s more like HP experts employed by HP and paid to help HP customers. 

 

Community gives the impression of togetherness, support, help.  It implies HP are even interested, concerned and care about how customers, like me, interact with their HP products.  If this is the case, then HP should be training their experts to give simple, clear, understandable, answers (because I’m no technobod) about where HP customers can buy genuine HP replacement parts and if they’re not available why they’re not. 

 

Perhaps the real answer is with our imperfect nature and that’s something we as human beings find difficult to even consider because it raises uncomfortable questions about the motives of executives who run global companies like HP.  Therefore, it’s easier to set up a so called online community or forum and have people working for them who maybe experts in electronic engineering and digital wizardry, they maybe able to answer the question where I can buy a genuine HP printhead for my HP Photosmart 7510 (311a) but there’s no way they’re gonna give a straight answer as to why their employer HP doesn’t stock affordable printer parts.  Yeah, they’ll say ‘your printer went out of production 8 years ago’ and ‘a HP replacement part costs more than a new printer, so it’s more cost effective to get a new printer.’  Yeah, that’s an answer, but it’s not a satisfying one is it?  That’s because it feeds into life’s big questions, and that’s too uncomfortable for anyone, let alone the business executive gods, to even consider. And HP experts don’t earn their daily crust to answer life’s big questions.  They’re there to help their employer's customers' fix their HP product problems.     

 

I asked where I can buy a genuine HP printhead for my HP Photosmart 7510 (311a) printer, and if HP don’t sell printheads for my HP printer I wanted to know why because I wanted to repair it.  On HP’s online troubleshooting pages they said I they sold printheads.  I clicked on the link and saw info about buying printheads certain models but not for my printer.  ‘Well’, I thought ‘HP’s website said they sell printheads for my HP Photosmart 7510, they take me through the steps on how to install a new printhead for my particular model of printer, so I’ll keep looking.  I trawled through pages and pages and found nothing.  Then I started questioning why I can’t find the information about where on HP’s website I can buy a new printhead.  So those are the reasons why I asked WHERE on HP’s website can I buy a genuine HP printhead for my HP Photosmart 7510 (311a) printer and if I can’t WHY can’t I.  

 

I bought my printer early January 2013.  HP deemed it obsolete that year.  For the next 8 years I spent between $150 to $200 a year on ink for that printer.  About  2 years after I bought it, it packed up on me and I had to go online and install HP’s Photosmart 7510 series Class Driver to get it working again.  Then the last week in August 2021 it packed up after I’d paid just under $79 for genuine HP ink cartridges.  I’m not rich.  I live in a one income family and I’m thankful I can still pay rent, food, clothes, taxes and for expensive ink cartridges for my 8 year old HP Photosmart 7510 (311a) printer. I don’t go on holidays because I can’t afford to do that and at the same time save for my pension.  So, I save for my pension.  I needed a good, solid, printer for work.  I chose this particular brand and model because in late 2012 it was well rated in consumer magazines and I thought it’d last me years.  So, from my hard earned wages I bought it, and I paid a lot of money for it.  Now after 8 years it’s gone kapput!  I mean, HP bigwigs up there in the higher firmament of the corporate world have no idea how hard their customers have to work to be able to afford a HP printer.  They have no understanding of what it costs HP customers across the world, who’re members of ordinary humanity, to purchase HP printers and products.  And then have to pay for expensive ink, and maintain them by buying overpriced genuine HP parts, when they wanna repair them.

 

Electonic waste shouldn’t be happening.  There is no reason why global brand like HP can’t make products that lasts and then stock replacement parts for a reasonable price, so customer can maintain and repair their HP products, or go to an electronic engineer down the round who can.  None!  It is sheer greed that stops this from happening.  It’s discouraging.  

 

There’re places in Africa and India, streets where people go to small shops to have their electronic devices and their electrical products repaired.  Fridges, computers, laptops, mobile phones, printers and more.  They have to take these goods to be repaired because they’ve got no choice.  They can’t just throw them out because they can’t afford new ones.  And they probably got these items second hand in the first place, after some so called developed, first world nation decided to ship their e-waste to them to dump it on ‘em.  But these resourceful, so called developing, third world nations recycle and repair our first world, developed nation e-waste and resold it.  People in certain parts of Asia and Africa have to make do and mend, so they take them to extremely skilled, knowledgeable, experienced people with the know-how to fix anything.  And they fix things for a fraction of the price global companies like HP charge for replacement parts and repairs.   They fix things like my HP Photosmart 7510 (c311a) printer, printers that HP tells me can't be fixed when it can if people have good motives and the will to save their customers loadsadosh!  So now I have to spend hundreds to dollars to buy a brand new all in one printer, that'll become obsolete which a year or two, and will stop working well before 10 years of me getting it?  I mean - really! 

 

Well, thanks for at trying to help me, and thanks for reading this because I know it's looooong.  It's  like a dissertation, but  I’m soooooooo mightily disappointed.  I know the powerful one's at the apex of HP's corporate world will now limit  the amount of words their customers can post on this community forum to stop, what they consider to be, negative comments about their products.  Never mind, we all feel uncomfortable when our imperfect human traits and behaviours are made obvious.  I hope though that those with power in HP 'sboard of directors give you lot a fair share of HP’s humongous profits, when they receive their million dollar pay and bonuses and paid their shareholders.    Take care now!
