Hi,

The HP 178 black ink cartridge is Pigment-based:

The HP 178 Photo ink cartridge is Dye-based:

http://www8.hp.com/emea_middle_east/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=3634067

 

 

You may find the inforation listed under the 'ink types' sections within above links as a reference.

I guess thats close enough, I was asking about the HP 564 cartridge.

I assume they are the same.

Yes, the 564 and the 178 cartridges are the same, just for different regions.
