When I print pictures a fine line appears all the way down. When this happened before I just used the utility to clen the print head. That worked everytime. Now it does not. Do I need to replace the printhead? And if so, is it worth it?

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post you are having issues while printing from your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes before the issue started?
Did it happen after replacing the ink cartridges or while using the existing Ink cartridges?
Are you facing this issue only while printing or while making a copies from the printer.
Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts? Is it horizontal lines or vertical lines.
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Let's start off by updating the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Alternatively you can also try to update the printer firmware directly from the printer control panel. Once done, restart the computer.
For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to do a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
If you are facing any issue while using the printer then try using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to this link: HP Printers - Using HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
Let’s try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the copy comes out bad then I would suggest you try to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP OfficeJet Printers - Fixing Print Quality Problems
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!

Thank you so much, Jeet_Sing. I will keep this info and begin working on it after the new year. My plate suddenly got flooded with other issues. This info certainly is encouraging and helpful. I will let you know how this works out.

Thanks for trying.
I'm afraid this would confirm a hardware issue. I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer,
Have a great day!

Thank you for replying,
Let's try to print the print quality diagnostics page:
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page, and then evaluate the results.
-
Load plain white paper in the input tray.
-
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.
A Print Quality Diagnostic Page prints.
Evaluate the report for any defects.
- If there are defects found, try the steps mentioned in this document.
- If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to clean the ink cartridge contacts as well as the printhead.
Let me know how it goes for further assistance!

The report looks clean. I chatted with HP Tech Support and Paolo installed a complete set of drivers. I printed a document with a photo and it looked good. He said that the problem should be fixed now. After we disconnected I printed again. Lines!!!!
Could it be my laptop or software? I am inserting photos into a word document and printing on Avery 3265 card stock. I am using Office 365. I can print am actual jpg photo and still get the lines. They afe fine horizontal lines 1 1/4 " apart.
Thanks for your suggestions. This is so frustratting. I buy a new printer and have the same problem.

This looks to be an issue with the software or driver related.
I would suggest you uninstall the printer drivers and then reinstall it.
You may refer to this support document for - HP Printers - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
Let me know how it goes for further assistance!
Thank you 🙂
