I'm trying to print some photos, but they are coming out much too dark. The paper setting is correct, the printer is set up correctly, and cartridges are newish I.e. fine!) - photos are very very dark

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Adjust the quality using the steps here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03422222

Also, what is the size, brand and weight of photo paper being used?

Thank you Betty0210. I am using HP Professional Laser Paper 150 glossy and have set the printer to print photos on HP 150 g glossy paper. I'm printing A4 size from the main tray. The photos have been printed perfectly well by professional printers  - we have prints - and show perfectly on the PC, whether as photos or in a Word document. I have put 2-3 photos on an A4 page in Microsoft Word and then go to "print". What comes out is sometimes so dark as to be illegible, other times dark and streaked - really bad. I don't know if it makes any difference, but cartridges are HP and fairly new, and the setting for "copy" are neither "lighter" nor "darker" - i.e. factory settings.

Has this always happened with this Printer?

Yes, it has always done so - which is why I try rarely to print them. I reached out as I was "getting to the end of my tether" trying to fix it for some important urgent photos - but failed again. It prints Word documents fine, but an A4 page of photos - or A4 one photo is very very dark. I think I've said previously that I'm using HP photo paper and have set it up to print as using HP paper.

No sorry! It's the darkness of the print that's a problem - looks OK on screen but not when printed.

Hi - It still prints dark when printing on HP photo paper, but when printing on bog-standard 150gm card, it seems to be OK

Make sure it's compatible with your printer: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m277-series/7089945/model/7089949/doc... (go to paper-handling)

Hi Betty I don't understand, I'm afraid. I am using HP professional laser paper 150 glossy in A4 size 150g/m2. The size is fine for the printer and it's top quality HP paper. There is nothing in the information you sent me about print density on photo paper - only sizes. The printer works OK with ordinary paper but as soon as I set it up for photo paper and use the HP photo paper, it comes out very dark
