HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer

Why does my HP 8028e printer keep giving me the following message?

“Copy does not support Envelope 6 ¾ X 6 ½ in. Load a supported size of paper in the tray to continue. Touch ? to view the supported paper sizes."

I have 8 ½ X 11 inch loaded into the tray already, so I'm flummoxed by this message.

Hi @RobertsParks-1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

The message you're seeing indicates that the printer is expecting a specific paper size for the copy operation, but it seems to be detecting an envelope size instead of the 8 ½ x 11 inch paper you have loaded. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Paper Tray Settings:

  • Make sure the paper size setting in the printer's paper tray matches the actual paper loaded. Sometimes the printer might not detect the correct paper size automatically.
  • Adjust the paper guides in the tray so that they fit snugly against the paper.

2. Check Copy Settings:

  • Verify that the copy settings on the printer are set to use the correct paper size (8 ½ x 11 inch). You might have accidentally set the copy size to a different size.
  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the copy settings and ensure it’s set to the standard paper size.

3. Reset Paper Size Settings:

  • Go into the printer’s menu and reset the paper size settings to default. This can sometimes clear any confusion the printer might have about the paper size.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can fix issues related to paper detection and size settings.
  • Check the HP support website for any available updates for your printer model.

5. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 60 seconds. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve issues related to incorrect error messages.

6. Check for Paper Size in Software:

  • If you’re sending a copy job from a computer, ensure that the paper size selected in the printing or scanning software matches the paper loaded in the tray.

7. Inspect Paper Type and Quality:

  • Ensure that the paper you’re using is suitable for the printer. Sometimes, unusual paper types or sizes can cause errors.

If you’ve tried these steps and the issue persists, there might be a hardware issue or a more specific configuration problem that may require contacting HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
