My printer got unplugged yesterday and I had to reset it due to problems. I previously had a preset saved for printing photos that included the setting of printing on "Matte Photo Paper" but now that option just isn't there. I changed the default paper setting on the HP website to "Specialty Paper - Matte" but it didn't change anything. My photos are coming out much darker and duller than before and no matter what settings I change, nothing is helping. I run a small business out of my house so my print quality is extremely important. I've been working at this all day and I'm getting very frustrated.

It sounds like you're facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 7301 All-In-One printer where the option to print on "Matte Photo Paper" is missing after resetting the printer. This could be due to a few reasons, and I'll provide you with some steps to try and resolve the issue.

 

  • Check Printer Firmware and Software Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes, updates can bring back missing features or fix compatibility issues. You can visit the HP support website and enter your printer model to find the latest updates.
  • Reset Printer Preferences: Sometimes, printer preferences can get corrupted during a reset. Try resetting the printer preferences to default settings. You can usually find this option in the printer settings menu on the printer itself or through the printer's software on your computer.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall and then reinstall the printer drivers on your computer. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause various issues. You can download the latest drivers from the official HP website.
  • Verify Paper Type Settings: Make sure that the paper type settings match the physical paper you're using. If you're using matte photo paper, ensure that the paper type selected in the printer settings matches that.
