Wide gaps (several lines) of text left out of printed document (not just lines through text).   (Document looks fine in Preview).

New driver installed, fresh ink cartridge inserted – no help.  Do I have to buy a new printer (urgent;  needed for tax submission)?

There are a few things that may resolve the blank lines of text while printing:  The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve parts of lines being not printed.  Clean the electrical contacts as shown in step 6 of the document. [This is written for a different printer model, but the steps for your printer are the same.  Be sure to clean the electrical contacts in the printer.  Since you have changed the cartridge it is likely that if there is an electrical issue it would be debries on the printer electrical contacts.

If the above does not resolve the issue, with tax time closing in I would suggest the following:

  • In the driver settings change the print quality to "best".  [I do not use a Mac, the driver settings may be different, but you will want the top choice for print quality.]
  • If the issue is still not resolved and you have color ink in the color cartridge then remove the black cartridge and set it aside.  Print using just the color cartridge.  This will automatically switch to a reserve mode, using the color cartridge to print the black text.
