Hi @Quogges,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a couple of issues with your HP Envy 6400e series printer. Let's tackle each problem step by step.

Red Cross (Stop) Light After Print, No Printing

When the red cross (stop) light appears after attempting to print, but no print job is completed, it can be due to several reasons:

  1. Printer Queue Issue: Sometimes print jobs get stuck in the queue, preventing new ones from printing.
  2. Driver Issue: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause printing problems.
  3. Connection Issue: If the printer is not properly connected, it won't receive the print jobs.

Steps to Resolve:

1. Clear Print Queue:

  • Press the Windows key + R, type "services.msc," and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to "Print Spooler," right-click it, and select "Stop."
  • Open File Explorer and navigate to: C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
  • Delete all files in this folder.
  • Go back to the Services window, right-click "Print Spooler," and select "Start."

2. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support Page for the Envy 6400e series.
  • Download and install the latest drivers for your specific model and Windows version.

3. Check Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • For wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

4. Test Print:

  • After performing the above steps, try printing a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

Wireless Printing Setup

If the printer is not accepting the auto-scanned router SSID (not SID), it might be a compatibility issue or a misconfiguration.

Steps to Resolve:

Manual SSID Entry:

  • If the auto-scan isn't working, manually enter your Wi-Fi SSID and password into the printer's settings.
  • Use the printer's control panel or its web interface to input the Wi-Fi details.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

  • If your router supports WPS, you can press the WPS button on the router and then on the printer to automatically connect.
  • Check your router's manual for WPS instructions.

HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your computer or smartphone.
  • Follow the app's instructions to set up the printer wirelessly.

Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer to avoid any conflicts.
  • You can usually set this up through the printer's web interface.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the printing and wireless setup issues with your HP Envy 6400e series printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
