Windows is notifying me periodically that the printer needs my attention, but when I run HP Print and Scan Doctor it doesn't find any problems. The last thing I printed had streaks on the images, but the ink levels are ok. I tried to clean the printheads using the HP software but nothing happens when I click on Clean Printheads. Any suggestions?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does the copy print out the same way?
  • Have you tried updating the printer and windows drivers to the latest?
  • Could you please share the picture of the error message?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

The next thing I printed had lines in the images so I initiated a printhead cleaning. That took a few tries and a couple more restarts of the printer, but I haven't gotten any more messages. Hopefully that's all the problem was. Vague error messages are the worst!

Thank you for posting back.

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
