Hi I am facing a problem when printing in black ink. The top half of some sentences/words are cut off and it only seems to be happening to black ink. My printer is a HP envy 5540, with windows 8.1 operating system. Help?

Hi @elaina13,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing print quality issues with your HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer when printing in black.

This issue could occur if the electrical contacts on the cartridge or the printer are not working or the black cartridge is defective.

Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.

And here are a few steps for you in the link: Fixing Poor Print Quality

Also, I suggest that you remove the black cartridge, print the same page with the color cartridge only and check.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.
