HP Smart tank plus 559 Wireless All-in-One

I was trying to print an image, and mid-printing the yellow color stopped working, but I thought it was normal: the ink tank was empty.

I proceeded by refilling it.

But now it still doesn't get printed!

I have already tried to clean the printer through automatic procedures, and also manually, all colors are printed except yellow.

The tubes that connect the printhead to the tanks are not full of ink in neither of the four colors.

I have no idea what to do: how can I force the yellow color to go to the printhead?

Thank you in advance

@DomenicoP, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Yellow Ink Printing Issues on HP Smart Tank Plus 559!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the yellow ink is not printing on your HP Smart Tank Plus 559 printer, despite refilling the ink tank and performing cleaning procedures. Here are some steps you can try to address the problem:

Check Ink Level and Quality:

  • Ensure that the yellow ink tank has been filled with compatible HP ink and is at the correct level. Use only genuine HP ink to avoid clogging or damage to the printhead.

Inspect Ink Tubes:

  • Make sure there are no air bubbles trapped in the yellow ink tube. Often examining the tube visually can help you identify if any air is obstructing ink flow.

Manual Printhead Cleaning:

  • While you've mentioned manual cleaning, try gently removing the printhead and using a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean around the nozzle area. Be careful not to touch the electrical contacts.

Run Printhead Cleaning Utility:

  • Use your printer software on the computer to run the printhead cleaning utility multiple times to see if this resolves the issue.

Print a Nozzle Check Pattern:

  • Printing a nozzle check pattern can help determine if the yellow nozzles are still clogged. Run this test from the printer’s control panel to identify any blockages.

Check for Firmware or Software Updates:

  • Sometimes updating the printer’s firmware or software drivers can solve printing issues. Check the HP support website for any updates related to your printer model.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thank you, but I have done all of these and nothing changed. The only thing I can say is that there are in fact bubble airs inside all the four tubes (yellow, magenta, cyan and black)

@DomenicoP, I hear you — it can be frustrating when you’ve just refilled the ink, but that cheerful splash of yellow still refuses to show up on the page. From what you describe, those air bubbles in the tubes are likely the real culprits here. When there’s air trapped inside, it’s like the ink is stuck in traffic and can’t make its way to the printhead.

Here’s what I suggest trying:

Prime the ink system – On the HP Smart Tank Plus 559, there’s an option in the printer’s maintenance menu called “Ink System Priming” (sometimes under “Printhead Cleaning” → “Deep Cleaning”). This pulls the ink through the tubes and pushes the air out.

Give the tubes a visual check – While it runs, you might actually see the bubbles moving along and disappearing. That’s a good sign.

Repeat if needed – Sometimes it takes two or three passes before the flow feels “smooth” again.

Once the lines are full, run a nozzle check to see if that yellow finally sings again.

Hope this helps!
