I can not remove the yellow exclamation mark on the printer icon located on the dock of MacBook Pro. The printer prints but does 2-sided printing poorly. Please & thanx.......

Hi @gogwn,

Good day and thank you for stopping by the HP community.  I read the post about poor two-sided printing issues from your Mac. I will be delighted to assist you with this. You've done a commendable job of describing the issue wit great clarity and Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent software or Mac update?

For now please try these steps and it should fix the issue for you.

Reset the Mac printing system first from this link:  http://hp.care/2gOrf2g

Then add the printer by following these steps:

1.) Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

3.) In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.

4.) Click the Add button.

5.) Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer.

7.) Avoid the AirPrint driver. Once the correct HP driver is chosen, select Add to add the printer to the list.

8.) Try to print.

This will do the trick for you.

  • Also refer to the document on how to print two sided from this link: http://hp.care/2gEFg37 which will be very useful.

  • This printer settings link: http://hp.care/2gE3A5r will give you valuable information on your printer settings. Refer to the section under "Layout and formatting settings"

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Sorry I have taken so long to try your suggestion(s). I am now on High Sierra 10.13.1 version. I followed the link you enclosed in your response: Steps 1-9. The Mac automatically goes to Secure Airprint even after attempting Auto Select in that Printers window. Tried printing anyway, the yellow exclamation continues to appear on the dock, printer icon while printing. QUESTION: Could this exclamation be a "heads-up" that ink is running low? Please & thanx. I have not attempted 2 sided printing yet to see if following your instructions resolved that situation.
