I have the ELM1CN1409AR firmware on this printer and can't install the latest R1830A, which is needed to fix the latest security problem.
When I simply run the tool PS_7520_R1830A.exe it finds the printer, shows the actual firmware version and states "Nicht anwendbar" (not applicable) as message.
I found a workaround for older a older firmware, which I tried:
- unpacked the program
- start EnterpriseDU.exe and let it find the printer
- change in the directory of the unpacked program the file EnterpriseDU.ini the value VerifyDownloadID=1 to VerifyDownloadID=0
- hit the refresh button
- select the printer
- apply the firmware
It tries to update but I get an error message. The update failed and I should switch the printer on and off. I tried it but it does not help.
In the beginning I enabled the webupdate (why hassle with firmware, if the printer can update itself?). It made one update but only to that ersion ELM1CN1409AR.
I tried to get the firmware version ELM1CN1607AR, as it is the latest in the EnterpriseDU.ini found in the firmware folder, but all download links are broken.

You can try the following workaround: https://www.memorysieve.co.uk/2015/10/update-firmware-hp-officejet-6500a-plus.html
That way I applied the update R1830A today.
(It was also recommended by the German HP Support.)

Hi,
is the printer connected through the network or with USB?
May you try plugging a USB cable and then run the firmware update utility?
If it fails try the same workaround of changing the value of VerifyDownloadID to 0 and run the update with a USB, may there is any difference?

On my first tries I used two computer with Windows 7 connected over the network.
After your advice I connected now the printer directly per USB. I tried to apply the patch per editing the .ini file, but that did not work either. The program tried to install the patch, but failed.
In a second attempt I switched off networking on this computer to make completly sure, the USB connection will be used. That did not help either.
Any idea where I could get older firmware version?

Thanks a lot, that worked for me! Here I listed what I did, to apply the patch:
I connected the printer per USB. Then I renamed the extracted firmware (per a Zip-Utility) from the PS_7520_R1830A.exe from "elvis_mp1_ELM1CN1830AR_nbx_signed.ful" to "fw.ful" to make the typing more convinient.
I needed to enable the shares for the installed printers in the home network on the computer. The command "copy /b firmware.ful USB001" did not work because the old command prompt and USB does not work well together. So you have to use the workaround with the share.
After enabling the the network sharing for the printer, I could list my shares with the following command:
net view \\computer
You have to exchange the name " computer" with the network name of your PC.
I got the share listed on the command console:
[...]
HP Photosmart 7520 series Printer
[...]
With that name I finally could apply the patch:
copy /b fw.ful "\\computer\HP Photosmart 7520 series"
This will apply the patch. I saw a green screen on my printer with numbers and a progress bar. After the patch it printed a page with the hardware information. Showing a new firmware applied.
