My old HP 960c did not play well with my new HP PC running Win 10, so I got an Envy 5055 in January. I thought it would be great to print from my tablet too, but I have NEVER been able to do it.
I have HP Smart on both devices.
When I want to print something from my tablet, I open HP Smart on the tablet and then go back to the document to press print. When I do that I get the message THIS PRINTER ISN'T AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. The printer shown is DIRECT-9C-HP, not ENVY.
The printer itself says THE TIME AVAILABLE TO CONNECT TO THE MOBILE DEVICE HAS RUN OUT.
I press OK and then the printer says it has received a request to print and I have a specific amount of time to press OK again. Then the printer says it is connected.
Now back to the tablet, it now says I can print, BUT the printer shown is not ENVY, but DIRECT9C-HP AND I actually have to be in front of the printer to press the OK button to print which makes the remote feature pointless.
I might add that HP Smart is NOT running on the PC when I did this, so I went to PC and opened HP Smart app and it says HP ENVY status ready. So I tried to print from tablet again. Again it shows printer as DIRECT-9C-HP and says THIS PRINTER ISN'T AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. I switch to ENVY and get the same message and the printer itself says, yet again, the time to connect to mobile has runout.
So I go to HP Smart on the PC and press Printer settings, then Print Anywhere and then Enable and the message? It Says COLLECTING DATA, but never does - it just spins. Another time it said the printer was associated with another account.
So what EXACT steps do I take to get my tablet to print REMOTELY?

Have you deleted the 960C from Windows?

Yes Dean, I did. Since my posting, I THINK I solved MOST of my issues
I deleted HP Smart from both devices and did an Internet search. HP suggested using HP Print Service Plugin which was already on my tablet, but I still got a message that the printer could not be found. I still had to go to printer to manually push OK. AND when I set my print preferences on the tablet, it printed in color even though I chose B&W.
So I did another Internet search for Printer not connected and did everything they said, No help.
At very end of tutorial, it suggested pushing the device symbol on the printer to confirm WiFi Direct was on, even though I knew it was, and I noticed that Connection Method was Manual, so I changed it to Automatic.
So now when I print from tablet, at first it says there is no printer connected. After about 15 seconds that goes away and I get the OK to print.
BUT, it STILL prints in color when I set B&W and I don't have any ink in my color cartridge, so the things in color do not print at all now.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the tablet to print in B&W like I told it to.

Is there some reason why you did not connect the printer to your network?

It was connected to network, but would not print unless I was in front of printer to push buttons.
I might point out that twice I had HP take over my PC remotely to correct a problem and I think that screwed up my settings.
Problem seemed to be that the printer setting had to be put to automatic from the screen on the printer - so now when I print from tablet, the message is No Printer Connected, then after about 15 seconds, the ability to print comes shows up. Have no idea why it says it cannot find the printer at first, but it does after a short wait.
The only problem I have now is that when I print from tablet and select BW, it prints in color instead.

Try removing the color cartridge & then printing.
Using WiFi-Direct there will always be a delay while the devices perform a handshake.

8 Lives -I removed the color cartridge and the printer went into "single cartridge" mode and the tablet now prints BW
BUT - that will not help when I replace the color cartridge.
It sort of defeats the purpose if I have to come to the printer and remove the color cartridge to print from my tablet.
That is a GREAT work-around, but, sadly does not help in the long run.
BTW - I appear to have 2 HP profiles (1 from my HP printer and one from my HP PC) how do I get down to just one?

At this point I would get back to HP & if they are unable to get it printing correctly then I would consider returning it.
