I have a Laserjet MFP M234sdw and I have just changed the cartridge to a compatible non geniune cartridge. The Supply policy and protection are in the off position and I'm still getting error messages. I have tried a hard reset with no luck.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi @Misfit7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've disabled cartridge protection and are still seeing the "11 Supply Problem" error on your HP LaserJet MFP M234, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the replacement cartridge is specifically designed for the HP LaserJet MFP M234 series. Even if it’s a compatible non-genuine cartridge, it needs to meet the exact specifications for your printer model.
Reinstall the Cartridge
- Remove the cartridge, inspect it for any visible packaging material or protective seals that might have been missed, and reinstall it securely.
Firmware Update
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, newer firmware can resolve compatibility issues with third-party cartridges.
- To check for a firmware update, visit HP Support and enter your printer model to download and install the latest firmware version.
Reset the Printer’s NVRAM
- NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) reset can sometimes clear errors related to cartridges:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on.
Clean the Contacts
- Clean the contacts between the cartridge and the printer. Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the metal contacts inside the printer and on the cartridge.
Try Another Cartridge
- If possible, try another cartridge (even another third-party one) to rule out a defective cartridge issue.
Factory Reset
- Perform a factory reset on the printer (if not done already). Keep in mind this will return the printer to its default settings.
- To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:
- On the control panel, go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm and wait for the printer to restart.
- To perform a factory reset, follow these steps:
If none of these steps work, the printer may not be fully recognizing the non-genuine cartridge, in which case switching to a genuine HP cartridge could resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
