Hi @suegue,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re getting a message on your computer that says “Print failed, something went wrong when trying to print” when printing from the internet. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and get printing working again.

Check the printer’s physical status
Make sure the printer is powered on and shows no error lights or messages.
Clear any paper, ink, or door warnings before continuing.

Restart the printer and computer
Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
Restart the computer, then power the printer back on.

Confirm the printer is set as the default
Go to your computer’s Printers & scanners settings.
Select your printer and set it as the default printer.

Check printer status
In Printers & scanners, open the printer queue.
Make sure the printer is not paused and does not show “Offline.”

Clear the print queue
Cancel any stuck or pending print jobs.
If jobs won’t clear, restart the Print Spooler service and try again.

Try printing from a simple program
Open Notepad or a basic text editor and print a short test page.
If this works, the issue is related to browser or document handling.

Check the web browser print settings
When printing from the internet, use the browser’s Print option (Ctrl + P).
Try changing settings like paper size or disabling “Print headers and footers.”

Try a different browser
If you’re using Chrome, test printing from Edge or Firefox.
Browser-specific issues can cause print failures without clear errors.

Verify the printer connection
If using Wi-Fi, make sure the computer and printer are on the same network.
If using USB, unplug and reconnect the cable directly to the computer.

Restart after changes and test again
Close all programs, restart the computer once more, and try printing again.
This ensures settings refresh correctly.

I hope this helps.
