When trying to connect my printer to internet with a new tp-link AXE5400 router, I get a troubleshooting message that "more than one access point/wireless router has been found that matches your wireless network's name" and my printer might be connected to the wrong wireless network. What do I do? I only see one correct name in my list of available networks although I did not change the network name when I installed the new router.

Hi @joelt7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When connecting your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283cdw printer to a new TP-Link AXE5400 router and encountering a message about multiple access points with the same network name, it suggests that your printer might be seeing multiple networks with the same SSID (network name) or there may be a network configuration issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Verify Network Settings

  • Log in to your TP-Link router’s web interface. You can typically do this by typing the router’s IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1) into a web browser.
  • Check the wireless settings to ensure that the SSID (network name) is unique and not duplicated across different frequency bands (e.g., 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) if your router supports multiple bands.
  • Some routers broadcast multiple SSIDs for different frequency bands (e.g., MyNetwork_2.4G and MyNetwork_5G). Make sure your printer is trying to connect to the correct SSID that corresponds to your desired network.

2. Remove Old or Duplicate Networks

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Network Test or Wireless Configuration.
  • Look for an option to view or manage saved networks and delete any old or duplicate networks that might be causing confusion.
  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings. This will reset all network configurations and allow you to start fresh.

3. Reconnect Printer to Network

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Follow the prompts to select your network’s SSID and enter the network password. Ensure you are connecting to the correct network name.
  • Make sure the printer displays a confirmation that it has successfully connected to the network. You should see the wireless icon on the printer’s display.

4. Check Router Settings for Interference

  • Make sure there are no other devices broadcasting the same SSID that could be causing confusion. This includes older routers or access points that may still be active.
  • Power cycle your TP-Link router by unplugging it for about 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. This can resolve temporary issues with network broadcasting.

5. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and search for your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283cdw. Download and install any available firmware updates.

6. Verify Printer Connection

  • On your printer, print a network configuration page to verify that it is connected to the correct network and has a valid IP address.
  • If you know the printer’s IP address, you can use the command prompt on your computer to ping the printer (ping [printer IP address]) to check if it is reachable over the network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Rachel for your response. For step 1 below, when I check the network settings, I see that both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have the same SSID. I was not given any choice to make them different. The first one says it is on Channel 2 and the second on Channel 40. When I have tried to connect the printer (step 3), it has claimed it has connected to the 5GHz network on Channel 38. What the printer says exactly is "Connection established. SSID Taylors. Channel: 38 (5GHz)."  For step 2 below, I do not get the menu on my printer screen that you describe. For Network Setup, I get the choices of Wireless Menu, IPv4 Config Method, Auto Crossover, Network Services, or Link Speed. I do not get Wireless Settings>Wireless Network Test or Wireless Configuration. I cannot fine any Restore Network Settings link. As far as step 4, my old router was a Linksys but it is no longer connected to anything. I have tried unplugging the new router (and printer and computer) prior to again trying to link to the new router. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.........Joel Taylor
