Hi @mrbee19501,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your printer stopped mid-print and is now showing error D818BC14 on the screen.

This type of code is typically related to a firmware or internal system error, and we’ll go through a few steps to try to recover the printer.

Step 1: Perform a full power reset

  • Turn the printer OFF
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer
  • Unplug from the wall outlet
  • Wait for at least 60–90 seconds
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips)
  • Turn the printer back ON

Step 2: Check if the printer becomes responsive

  • If the screen returns to normal, try printing a test page
  • If the error reappears immediately, proceed to the next step

Step 3: Reset the printer (if the menu is accessible)

If you can access the menu:

  • Go to Setup / Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore / Reset
  • Select Restore Factory Defaults

Step 4: Disconnect all external connections

  • Remove any USB cable
  • Ensure the printer is only connected to power
  • Restart again and observe behavior

Step 5: Firmware recovery (if applicable)

If the printer briefly becomes ready:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
