I have the same question but need to add another.
I found on early posts from several years back referring to full reset of printer but no mention that it erases memory. I'm assuming returning to factory settings erases memory. Basically, unplug the printer. Hold down the # and 9 and reconnect/turn on and hold down for 10 seconds and then you will be back to factory settings. Post was archived so couldn't reply but multiple mention that it would take approximately 5 minutes to reset and do page alignment.
I can't print - print drivers demaged and leaking. But I have power and power cord. I did the reset - appears to be back to to factory settings since it is prompting me to enter language just as i did when I originally purchased years back . When I did the reset - it mentioned NVM reset on display during the 10 seconds I was holding the # and 9. I don't know what that means. Archived posts didn't mention this would appear during reset.
My question is did I complete reset to factory settings so any memory from my scans/copies/prints/faxes are erased or is it incomplete because I didn't complete page alignment? If it is partial, how can I ensure sensitive information erased before I dispose?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I’d be glad to help with your printer issue 🙂
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
What is the product number of the printer? Is it HP OfficeJet 8500 (909/910) Use this link to find it: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Have you checked for any physical damage on the ink cartridges? Have you checked for any Ink smears on the printer?
Did this happen after replacing the ink cartridges or while using the existing ink cartridges.
Could you please respond to this post with the details so that I can provide you with an accurate solution which should help you resolve this issue.
Eagerly waiting for your reply.
