Hi @woofer22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing intermittent printing issues with your HP Officejet 6100xi printer, where it only prints sporadically. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to address this issue.

Check the Printer Connection

  • USB Connection: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and your computer. Try using a different USB port or cable if available.
  • Wireless Connection: If you are using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Restart your router and printer to refresh the connection.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Officejet 6100xi printer.
  • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

Printer Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select Printer properties.
  • Ensure that the printer is set as the default printer.
  • Check the Ports tab to make sure the correct port is selected (e.g., USB001 if connected via USB).

Check for Print Queue Issues

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Double-click on your printer to open the print queue.
  • If there are any stuck print jobs, right-click and select Cancel.

Restart Print Spooler Service

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down and find the Print Spooler service.
  • Right-click on it and select Restart.

Firmware Update

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP Support website.
  • Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

Network Issues

  • If you are printing over a network, ensure that your printer and computer are on the same network.
  • Try assigning a static IP address to your printer to avoid connectivity issues.

Printer Hardware Issues

  • Make sure there are no paper jams or other hardware issues.
  • Clean the print heads and check for any obstructions.

Reinstall Printer

  • Remove the printer from Devices and Printers.
  • Uninstall any HP software related to the printer.
  • Restart your computer and reinstall the printer using the latest drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
