Hello,
I bought a new Inkjet 3835 about 3 weeks ago. Today, I've tried to print double sided for the first time and encountered three problems:
- When I'm promted by the computer to reinsert the paper and continue the printing, the paper doens't drop at first, even though the printer whirs and seems to try to pull it in. After it stops whirring, a notification to load more paper pops up, which I verify. Only then, the paper dops and printing resumes. I assumed this would be more seamless.
- When I print horizontally, flipping the paper as instructed, each side of the paper is oriented wrong.
- When several pages(3-4) are inserted, some of them jet tilted to the side while being fed and get jammed.
Are these routine issues with the printer, or is the printer faulty? Are there solutions?
Help would be appriciated.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing from your HP printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Could you provide me with the exact model of the printer? Is it Deskjet 3835 printer or OfficeJet 3835 printer
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Have you tried to update the printer firmware?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
If your printer connected wireless, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website. Once done restart the printer.
If the issue persists, I would suggest you try these steps here:
Let's try these steps here to Uninstall and Re-install the printer drivers:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Now click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers (Please enter the product number and then select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the printer software.
15.) Connect the USB cable only when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Now go ahead and check the settings,
- Go to Control panel – Devices and printer.
- Right-click on HP Printer and select “Printer properties”.
- Select the “Device settings” tab.
- Ensure that the “Duplex unit” is set to “Installed” rather than “Not installed” and save the settings.
- Now again give a right-click on the printer icon and select “Printing preferences”.
- If a "Printing shortcuts" tab is available, select the "Print on Both Sides" or "Two-sided (Duplex) Printing" option.
- If “Printing shortcut” is not available, click the “Layout”, “Features”, or “Finishing tab”, depending on which tab displays in your driver version.
- Locate the "Print on Both Sides" or "Two-sided printing" menu or option, then select the binding or page flip option depending on if you want the document to read like a booklet or a tablet and save the settings.

Hello Jeet, and thank you for the reply.
My exact printer model is DeskJet Ink Advantage 3835. I'd did no changes and didn't update the firmware. I only installed the drivers from the attached CD.
I've tried both of your solutions. It appears jamming has stopped. As for the papers not dropping, I've realized I should push them harder into the loading tray for the process to proceed correctly. The issue with horizontal double-sided printing persists.
Can you suggest another solution, please?

Thank you for replying,
I'm glad to hear you got it working partially, however, having issues with horizontal double-sided printing. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.
In this scenario, I would suggest here is to clean the ink cartridge contacts as well as the rollers.
Clean the Ink Cartridge:
Use the printer control panel to clean the ink cartridges, and then evaluate the results.
NOTE:
To avoid issues that require cleaning, always turn the printer off with the Power button.
-
Load plain paper into the input tray.
-
On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.
-
Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.
-
The printer performs the automated cleaning process, and then prints a Print Quality Diagnostic page.
-
If the print quality is acceptable, you can stop troubleshooting.
-
For cleaning the rollers: Please follow the steps from this support document - HP OfficeJet 3830, DeskJet 3830 Printers - Paper Jam Error
I hope these steps should do the trick. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
