I'm trying to print an A9 greeting card envelope which is 5 3/4" x 8 3/4". I'm using a Hallmark Card program and I created the envelope and correct size, etc. When I select 'print' the printer gives me an error code that says "paper size detected is not the paper size selected." Please help.

Welcome to the HP Community.
I cannot answer for Hallmark software - I've never used it.
Answer:
If the specifications are correct, this printer / driver does not support Custom Sizes in Windows.
Printer Specifications for HP Officejet 8600, Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, 8660 Printers
Supported envelopes
note:Load envelopes in Tray 1 only.
Paper type | Paper size |
U.S. 10 envelope | 105 x 241 mm (4.1 x 9.5 inches) |
A2 envelope | 111 x 146 mm (4.4 x 5.8 inches) |
DL envelope | 110 x 220 mm (4.3 x 8.7 inches) |
C5 envelope | 162 x 229 mm ( 6.4 x 9.0 inches) |
C6 envelope | 114 x 162 mm (4.5 x 6.4 inches) |
Monarch envelope | 98 x 191 mm (3.9 x 7.5 inches) |
Card envelope | 111 x 152 mm (4.4 x 6.0 inches) |
Chou #3 envelope | 120 x 235 mm (4.7 x 9.3 inches) |
Chou #4 envelope | 90 x 205 mm (3.5 x 8.1 inches) |
Yeah, but...
As long as the envelope size falls within the supported "Custom Paper size" noted in the Specifications,
The custom size envelope is normally doable.
That said, the Specifications do indicate Custom sizes are only supported in Mac.
What? Some of the older printers just didn't have the full driver support in Windows.
It is possible the specifications are wrong - the document is as old as the printer.
IF it's going to work,
The following will help sort at least some of what needs to be checked...
Full Driver printer software
The full driver is most likely installed, else you would have more issues printing "anything".
Nonetheless...
Check for the printer software in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
