envy 4500
macOS 12.0 Monterey

envy 4500 perfectly prints alignment and printer status report and any thing scanned but will only print the first 1 inch of any normal page i try and print. New HP ink. I reset factory defaults. power cycled many times.

I understand you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer. Given that it prints alignment reports and scanned items correctly but only prints the first inch of normal pages, this could be related to several factors:

 

  • Driver Issue: Ensure you have the latest printer driver installed for macOS 12.0 Monterey. Sometimes, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause printing problems. You can download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
  • Print Settings: Double-check the print settings on your Mac. Make sure that the page size and print area settings match what you expect. Sometimes, incorrect settings can cause the printer to only print a portion of the page.
  • Printer Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve printing issues. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP Support website or through the HP Smart app.Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Printer Alignment: Even though alignment reports print correctly, try running a full alignment process again from the printer's menu to ensure everything is properly aligned.
  • Paper Path Issues: Check the paper path for any obstructions or issues that could be causing the printer to not print beyond the first inch of the page.
  • Reset Printer: You mentioned you’ve reset to factory defaults, but try performing a full reset if you haven’t already. This often involves turning the printer off, unplugging it, and then holding the power button while plugging it back in.
  • Software Conflicts: Sometimes, software conflicts on your Mac can cause printing issues. Try printing from a different application or user account to rule out software issues.
