I am desperate for help. I have changed both of my HP cartridges 62 twice in the last four weeks. This is crazy. I have probably printed 60 sheets of which were all blank and white. I understand that the color ink is being used even if I select black and white, which makes no sense to me.

Firstly how much inks do you put on papers (% coverage, dpi, bold, ,,,,) ?More inks coverage on pages will reduce number of pages prints / cartridges.
For example 5% page coverage you can get 120 pages/cartridge but 10% page coverage you can only get 60 pages/cartridge.
Secondary: as you know: mixing prime colors at a right amount we can get up to over 16 millions colors from black to white. Printers do the same: they mix colors to make black and white UNLESS you tell them to use black ink ONLY.
Regards.
