I am planning to give away my HP officejet 8500A  plus and was wondering about erasing the memory.  The specs say it has 128 mb of memory and I am wondering if anything could be stored in it that could be sensitive information from things I have copied or printed.  How can this memory be erased?  I haven't found anything by googling it

Hi,

Please try the following one - Sorry it's not English:

In short: If you observe the printer screen very carefully, you can see the "RETURN" key although it is not glowing. Press this key 4 times. This should open Support menu....

Regards.

Hi,

A Full reset to bring it back to Factory settings may help. Please try:

HP Officejet Pro 8500A e-All-in-One Printer – Full Reset

  • Turn OFF the Printer.
  • While the printer is turned OFF, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  • On the front panel of the printer, press the key sequence combo (Top Left, Bottom Left, Top Left, Top Left).
  • Select Menu and Select Select Full Reset.

Renards.

I turned off the printer then waited a short time and pressed the power button for 5 sec.  The lcd screen becomes dimly lit but where am I supposed to press this key sequence combo in?  I tried just pressing the upper and lower left of the screen but nothing happens - no menu appears to select a full reset.  Am I missing something?

Thank you so very, very much!!!  This worked perfectly.  My high school German didn't help me much, but a picture (or in this case a video) is worth a thousand words!!  I really appreciate you taking the time to find this and post it for me.  Now I'm sure any personal info is gone from the machine.  Thanks again!!

Blessings,

KS

Hi, I followed the video in German to the T, (to reset my HP OfficeJet 8500A) and got all steps to work until the very end. My HP turned off, but didn't show the the final step of the HP logo with the round "circle" arrow going clockwork around the logo. It just went black and that was it. So, I turned on the machine again to go thru all the steps. When I got to the part where the screen is black and you push the top left screen 1x, then bottom 1x, then top 2x, it din't go to the Blue Menu with the reset options. I tried 3x. Does this, in fact, mean that the reset was already completed correctly, and there is no need to go further?  Thanks very much!

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't have the power cord anymore, no way to power up the printer again.
