how to fix error 59.CO for model color laser jet pro M254dw (older recommendations to remove/install cartridges did not work); any other ideas?

Hi @EEDP,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Error 59.CO on a Color LaserJet Pro M254dw typically indicates a problem with the internal motor that drives the carousel, which houses the toner cartridges. If the usual troubleshooting steps like removing and reinstalling cartridges haven't resolved the issue, you may want to try the following steps.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP website. Follow the instructions provided to update the firmware.
Check for Obstructions:
- Turn off the printer and open the front cover.
- Check for any obstructions in the carousel area.
- Make sure that there is no debris or paper jammed in the printer.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.
- Wait for about 10-15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.
Inspect the Toner Cartridges:
- Ensure that the toner cartridges are correctly installed.
- Check for any damage to the cartridges.
- If you have spare cartridges, consider trying them to see if the problem persists.
Remember, these steps are general suggestions, and the specifics might vary depending on your printer model and its configuration.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Have tried the recommendations and it did not work; in the end, I have decided to take the printer to a repair shop.
It seems like the HP engineers are the best ones to design a product that breaks immediately after the warranty ends.
A few parts need to be replaced and cost will be way over what I originally paid for this unit (used very, very gently) or over a new unit (various brands).
This printer is now good for the recycling garbage.
Suffice to say that I will never purchase an HP product again…

I have the same question, but for a M281 out-of-warranty printer. First, I got the message and cleared the paper trail; copy printed. This process repeated a couple more times with one copy printing. Since then, we have followed all the clear paper/reseat cartridges and reset the printer to no avail. Is this an internal roller malfunction where the only solution is to buy a new printer?
