Hello! One night I heard my printer start doing a routine maintenance like it does occasionally. Ever since I have been getting error code 0x6100004a. I have tried powering down and unplugging the unit and waiting several minutes. When it reboots it first says “remove any jammed paper “ then after I hit ok it will set the error. I don’t have any paper jams and I have checked inside. All is ok. Thanks in advance.

Hi @UAL6532,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already taken some good troubleshooting steps. Error code 0x6100004a on an HP Officejet Pro 6968 often indicates a hardware issue, particularly with the printer's carriage. Here are a few additional steps you can try.
- Check for any obstructions: Even if you don't see any visible paper jams, there could be small pieces of debris or foreign objects obstructing the carriage's movement. Use a flashlight to thoroughly check the printer's interior.
- Reset the printer: Try performing a partial reset of the printer. To do this, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for at least 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in. Turn the printer back on and see if the error persists.
- Inspect the carriage path: Make sure the carriage can move freely along its path. If it's stuck or obstructed, gently move it to the other side of the printer and back to its original position. Be careful not to force it.
- Clean the encoder strip: The encoder strip is a clear plastic strip that runs horizontally across the printer's carriage path. It's responsible for encoding carriage position information. Dust or ink on the strip can cause errors. Clean it gently with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water.
- Check for damaged parts: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the printer's carriage assembly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
