I am trying to setup my new printer. Its a Smart Tank 5101. I cant print out the alignment page cause I have error KCMY on the screen. I filled the printer ink up to the top so it shouldn't be low on ink.

Hi @jbeaulie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The KCMY error on your HP Smart Tank 5101 indicates an issue with the ink tank levels or their detection. Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Check Ink Tank Levels:

  • Ensure that the ink tanks are correctly filled with ink up to the recommended levels. Double-check each of the four tanks (K - Black, C - Cyan, M - Magenta, Y - Yellow) for sufficient ink levels.

Secure Tank Caps:

  • Make sure that the ink tank caps are properly closed. An improperly closed cap can cause the printer to fail in detecting the ink correctly.

Reinsert Ink Tank:

  • If the error persists, try removing and reinserting the ink tank to ensure proper connection. Ensure that the tanks are properly seated in their respective slots.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a moment, and turn it back on. This can help in resetting the printer’s detection system.

Calibration:

  • After ensuring the ink tanks are properly filled and inserted, attempt to print the alignment page again to complete the setup process.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
