Hi @Yogibear1957 , Welcome to HP Support Community!

When your HP ENVY 5030 All-in-One Printer indicates it is unavailable on macOS 14.0 Sonoma, the issue is typically a temporary network interruption or a software configuration problem caused by macOS security settings.
Here are the steps to restore the connection:

1. Basic Connectivity and Power Cycle
Most "printer unavailable" errors are solved by a simple restart of all devices.
  • Restart Network Equipment: Unplug your Wi-Fi router, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Power Cycle the Printer:
    • Turn the printer on.
    • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
    • Wait 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the printer. The printer should power on automatically.
  • Restart the Mac: Restart your MacBook as well.

2. Verify macOS Network Permissions (Crucial for Sonoma)
macOS Sonoma enhances security and often requires explicit permission for apps to access devices on your local network.
  • Open System Settings on your Mac.
  • Go to Privacy & Security > Local Network.
  • Ensure that the HP Smart app (and any other HP software listed) has the toggle switched On. If it was off, toggle it on, close the settings, and try printing again.

3. Re-Add the Printer Using AirPrint
Apple's built-in AirPrint technology is generally more stable than specific manufacturer drivers on macOS. Removing and re-adding the printer forces macOS to find the device again using the correct protocol.
  • Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your existing HP ENVY 5030 printer entry in the list.
  • Click Remove Printer or the minus sign (-) button.
  • Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax... or the Add Device button (+).
  • A window will appear listing available printers. Select the HP ENVY 5030 with "AirPrint" listed under the Kind or Type column.
  • Click Add.

4. Use the HP Smart App
The HP Smart app is the recommended utility for setting up and managing modern HP printers on macOS.
  • Download and install the latest version of the app from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • If the app doesn't automatically detect the printer as "ready," click the Add Printer or plus sign (+) icon and follow the in-app instructions to configure the connection.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
