HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer

I also have the error message: "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off and back on."

I cannot count how many times I did a full or semi full reset, took out the cartridges or reseatet the printer head. I followed precicely many instructions from the support the last instructions I followed were these https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/error-message-quot-There-is...

my firmware is up to date.

The thing is, the printer prints perfectly fine if I start it in the MFG-mode, there is abolutly no leak or any other mechanical problem.

I wonder why I was not asked by the support to boot the printer in the MFG-mode until now to check if it is working properly rather than doing all the resets.

Anyway in the meanwhile I found several other information regarding the firmware, that after a specific version the firmware recognizes older original HP cartridges as thrid party cartridges and reacts with this error message.

The message appeared for the first time on my printer after I changed the cartridge. I bought the spare cartridges more than a year ago as I did not print that much. So I wonder if my original but older HP spare cartridges were recognized as 3rd party products thus causing the problem.

Since I can proof that I always used original HP cartridges with my printer I am not willing to throw the full but old cartridges into the bin only because the firmware is not able to identify those cartridges as original HP once especially not ss the printer prints in the officially not documented MFG-mode. The problem with this mode is, however, it is a bit complicated to boot the printer in MFG and my Mac recognizes the my HP 8620 in the MFG-mode as a new model with the model no. HP8500. I could not care less about the different name, but the HP-scan software on my mac is not able to connect with the printer anymore.

So, does anyone know how I can convice my printer to work in the regular mode as a HP 8620 and not only in the degraded MFG mode as a HP8500?

Non HP ink can be used on this list of HP printers.

From reading it appears that you can use any type of ink.

Make sure your firmware is 1910A

The only thing I can think of is that you do not have an instant ink subscription and you are trying to use an instant ink cartridge.  They only work if you have a subscription,.

Possibly the cartridge is simply not recognized as compatible.  Some possibilities are an expiration date or a different region.
