I have reinstalled the Laser Jet Pro software which should contain the correct driver. I have unplugged the power cord from the printer while it was powered up. I left it off for 10-15 minutes and powered it up. Tried Print Text Page and the same message immediately displayed. Yes, the printer was bought at least 10 years ago and maybe longer.
Is there any process I can do to make it print again? Please advise.

Hi @Coach300,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for getting back to us, and I truly appreciate the time you’ve already spent trying to bring your LaserJet Pro back to life.
Since you’ve:
- Reinstalled the HP LaserJet Pro software/drivers
- Power-cycled the printer correctly
- Tried the internal Print Test Page and still receive the error instantly
- Confirmed the printer is 10+ years old
…this tells us something important:
👉 The problem is not software; it is an internal hardware failure.
When an HP LaserJet shows an error even before attempting to print external documents, it means the internal diagnostics are failing.
Typical causes of older LaserJets include:
- Fuser unit failure
- Formatter board failure
- Laser/scan assembly malfunction
- Power supply issues
- Sensor degradation from age
Unfortunately, none of these can be resolved with resets or drivers.
Next Possible Steps
1️⃣ Service via HP Authorized Repair Center
If you want to try repairing it, the only remaining option is to take the printer to an HP Authorized Service Provider.
They can run hardware diagnostics to confirm whether a part can still be replaced.
However, for 10+ year-old LaserJets, parts may no longer be available, and repairs can often cost more than the value of the printer.
2️⃣ Consider Replacing the Printer
Given the age and hardware condition, replacing the unit may be:
- cheaper
- faster
- more reliable long-term
If you’d like, I can help recommend a current LaserJet model based on your printing volume and budget.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Vikram, thanks for your reply and analysis. Yes, please recommend a replacement for the HP LaserJet P1102w. I also have a Canon Photo Printer which has wireless printing, scanning and copying. So, I would be inclined to replace one for one as to features. Can you recommend a model number for me to consider. Thank you.

Vikram - Did you receive/view my latest reply? I was hoping you could suggest a current HP printer model to replace the P1102w which you indicate has a hardware issue and may be too old to have repaired. I look forward to your recommendation. Thank you, kindly.

Tzaidi - dead-end. Printer is out of stock. Can you recommend anything close to the P1102w printing in black and white only? Maybe a model with more features, but not too many more to be cost-prohibitive? Thanks.

Vikram - Since your last reply I have reconsidered an Epson EP-8550 or ET-4950 to use ink more efficiently with tank technology. Actually, I have zeroed in on replacing the Canon Photo Printer AND the HP P1102w since print less photos than documents in primarily black and white. But the Canon is somewhat old, also. The Epson is list $749.99 marked down to $499.99 but even that seems too high. I want to be sure the unit uses Gray and Photo Black ink rather than CMYK. Two input trays would be nice. My main usage is document printing, Excel spreadsheets and e-mail text. Printing duplex on both sides from the computer as well as from the scanner is a BIG plus. What models should be compared to Epson? Oh, and any Black Friday pricing? Thanks.
