@ChiefWolf, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Printer Settings

Check Printer Preferences:

  1. Open the print settings on your computer.
  2. In the print dialog box, click on Properties or Preferences.
  3. Ensure the Color option is selected and not set to black and white or grayscale.
  4. Look for an option like “Print in Grayscale” and make sure it is turned off.

Set to Color Printing in the Printer Driver:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (on Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (on macOS).
  • Right-click your HP Envy 4250, select Printing Preferences.
  • Make sure that Color is selected under the Color Options.

Check Ink Levels and Cartridges

Low or Empty Ink Cartridges:

  1. Check the ink levels of both the black and color cartridges via the printer’s display panel (or using the HP printer software on your computer).
  2. If the color ink is low or empty, replace the color cartridge with a new one.
  3. Even if you only print in black and white, the printer may still require color ink to complete certain tasks.

Cartridge Placement:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are correctly installed. If one of the cartridges is not seated properly, it could cause printing issues.

Check for Clogged Print Heads:

  • If your printer uses inkjet cartridges, clogged printheads might prevent color printing. Run the printer’s cleaning cycle through the printer's settings menu.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Update Printer Drivers:
    • Go to the HP support website (https://support.hp.com) and download the latest printer drivers for your HP Envy 4250.
    • Install the latest drivers and restart your computer.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers:
    • Uninstall the current printer driver from Devices and Printers.
    • Reinstall the printer driver from HP's official website or using the installation CD.

Check the Printer’s Default Settings

  • Sometimes, the printer's default settings might be configured to print in black and white. Check this in the printer's settings and ensure it is set to print in color.
    • This can usually be done through the printer's built-in menu or by accessing the printer settings via a computer.

Print a Test Page

  • Printing a test page can help determine whether the issue is hardware or software related.
    • Open the Devices and Printers section on your computer, right-click on the HP Envy 4250, and select Print Test Page.
    • If the test page only prints in black and white, it could be a hardware issue or a more serious ink problem.

Check for Wireless or Connection Issues

  • Connection Issues:
    • If you are printing wirelessly, make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
    • Ensure that the connection between your printer and the computer is stable, whether it's via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Print from Another Device:
    • Try printing from a different device to check if the issue is specific to the original device or the printer itself.

Perform a Printer Reset

  • If all else fails, try resetting your printer to factory settings:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
    3. Reset the printer settings through the printer’s menu or use the printer’s software.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
