Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Where was the Printer purchased initially and where are you located at the moment?

To do a printer region reset you need to meet the following conditions:

1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.

2. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer. Also, let us know the operating system of the Computer.

3. You need to have all the cartridges either from the region from where the printer was purchased originally or the new region to which you want to reset it to.

Let us know.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the "Accept as solution" button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

If you insert your old ink, do you still get the error message?

950/951 z10 cartridges are compatible with your printer.

Try the steps from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8610-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367603/docum...

Let me know if this helps.

The old cartridges were z20 and worked. Now with the new ones they are z10's. If the old ones are put back in it accepts them but says it is out of ink... as why i have purchased new ones but they are now z10's.  The old ones have been in for a while and were xl size so this is the first time to replace in about 18 mths. I did have to replace the print head last year with a new hp one that came w small cartridges that i was able to use after i finished using my xl.  The info screen shows that 950 and 950 z20 are compatible, but now z10 is all that is available for us. So i need the steps and whatever code necessary to change the region code in printer over to US so that i can get my new ink to work.

The region reset is only performed if you're in a different country other than the place of purchase of the printer and want to use to use the cartridges of that particular country.

So please perform a the steps from the link given.

Thanks 🙂

Betty,

I have installed all new cartridges of the Z10 type. I have tried the steps of the restart above does not clear the incompatible error message. Please provide the steps for doing a regional reset on my printer. I have win 10 home, 64 bit os. PLEASE help me so that I dont have a $500 paperweight that still works. Send me and IM to my account if needed. but i need to get fixed asap for my work.

The printer was purchased in the US. the ink was purchased in the US.  I had to replace a print head for $300 from amazon that came with ink and this is the only thing that could have changed the settings.

Thanks

I understand. The region reset will not work in your case as you're not using cartridges of any other country.
