Hi @avstock ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your encountering an error message like "Printer error. Contact HP" on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  • Restart the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
  • Check for any paper jams: Even if there is no obvious paper jam, it's worth checking all areas of the printer, including the input and output trays, to ensure there are no small pieces of paper causing a blockage.
  • Inspect the ink cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed and securely seated in their respective slots. Remove them and reinstall them to ensure they are correctly positioned.
  • Verify the ink levels: Check the ink levels on the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer. If any of the cartridges are low or empty, replace them with genuine HP cartridges.
  • Perform a hard reset: Sometimes, performing a hard reset can help resolve various issues with the printer. To do this, turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer, wait for about a minute, then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
  • Update the printer firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest firmware for your specific printer model.
