i have the printer unhook from the network . the power is  off and cord is unplugged from printer. when i plug in just the power cord i get service error 49 . if i plug in the network cord i get the same msg.

That you get the same message whether you have the network cable plugged in makes the problem a little less clear, unless you are also printing via wireless. A 49 error is caused most often by the printer receiving print instructions it just does  not understand, be that a corrupted file, a newer file format that contains commands not originally programmed into the language of the printer, a corrupted driver or wrong driver being used. In most cases a firmware update will resolve these problems. In this case if you cannot get the printer to ready you will not be able to flash the firmware. If you are using wireless, first step would be to disable wireless, but as you likely cannot do that at the printer level you need to shut off or disable wireless on the device your printer connects to and then restart. If it does restart, try plugging in a network cable. If that works then download the current firmware and update your printer. If all the previous does not resolve the problem, see the private message that I am sending you.
