@Third77_,

Greetings and Welcome to HP Support Community!

Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges?

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts?

Did you try to update the printer firmware?

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

You may go through the steps suggested in this support document for - 'Incompatible Ink Cartridge' or 'Ink Cartridges Missing' Error Displays

Alternatively, please go ahead and update the firmware firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest this could be an issue with the cartridge or the printer itself.

I would personally suggest you contact our HP Support team for further assistance.

Hi Jeet,

I'm using original HP cartridge # 62, cleaned the contacts, firmware has most updated version.  Did all the steps from hard reset all the way down to your instructions.  My HP envy 5540 still has the same error.

I tried juat putting colored cartrige, it went through printing process but it came out blank.  Both cartridges are new, error happened when I replaced the cartridges.

@Third77_,

This looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer.
