I have a little over a year old hp officejet pro 6978 The black ink stopped printing, I replaced with a brand new HP ink Cartridge and still no black ink. Ran the printhead cleaning 3 times and still no black. Tried to replace with another brand new hp cartridge, no black ink and now I'm getting error 0xc19a0015

@pjs819,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I see from your post that you are getting Printhead problem error message on your HP OfficeJet printer.. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Did this happen after a power surge or power outage?

Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts? Did you also try to clean the Printhead using Automated tool or Manually

Are you able to move the carriage freely?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let’s try updating the printer firmware once. Please go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers (Please enter the product number and then select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the firmware update).

For more information on how to update the printer firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Once done, try a hard reset on the printer:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Alternatively, you can go through the steps suggested in the support document for -  HP Printers - 'Ink System Failure' or '0x ...' Error Code Displays

You could also go through the steps suggested in the support document - HP Printers - Printhead Problem, Ink System Failure, '0x...' Error Displays

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would personally suggest you try to perform an advanced reset on the printer as there is no harm doing it, before confirming this to be a possible hardware failure.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

I had the same problem and after phone working on it with Support I was told that probably the print head is faulty.

My warranty runned out 10 days before.

What would be your advice in my case ?
